Making sense of data requires understanding of which data are important for the question at hand, and then organizing, summarizing and displaying those data so that they tell a meaningful story. The Data Literacy Project supports professional development to ensure that teachers can guide their students in making sense of data in an increasingly data-driven world.

The Project has three components:

  1. Nurture an understanding of pedagogical content knowledge about data literacy
  2. Develop a professional learning community in support of ongoing professional development in data literacy
  3. Develop teaching materials and assessment tools that support instruction in data literacy; and that can be used to identify areas where students need instruction, practice, and correction of misunderstandings.
